• Natural Sunscreen

Dark tanned body in summer with sunscreen lotion ** Note: Shallow depth of field

I don’t know about you, but I’m not okay with all those chemicals in sunscreen. Now that I have been blessed with two granddaughters it is important for me to help keep them protected from the sun, but without all the chemicals that can be found in sunscreen.

My friend, and our outstanding health and wellness expert, Marisa Dicenso-Pelser, shares some of her natural sunscreen recipes that have 30 SPF+ that are not only great for kids, but for you as well!

Sunscreen oil  spf 2

What you need:

¼ cup Shea Butter (contains a SPF of about 6)
¼ cup Coconut Oil (contains a SPF of about 10)
1 tbsp Almond Oil (contains a SPF of about 5)
1 tbsp Jojoba oil
10 drops Helichrysum Essential Oil and 10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil. If you don’t have Helichrysum just use more lavender
2 tbsp Zinc Oxide Powder – Adding in the Zinc Oxide Powder will automatically make this recipe contain an SPF of 30.

Helichrysum is a great essential oil for tissue regeneration as well as moisture retention.


Sunscreen Cream

¾ cup cocnut oil, almond oil, olive oil, or whatever carrier oil you prefer
¼ cup beeswax
2 tbsp. zinc oxide
10 drops Helichrysum Essential Oil and 10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil. If you don’t have Helichrysum just use more lavender

Directions:

Add all of the ingredients into a glass bowl.  Leave the zinc oxide powder and essential oils out until the end. Boil some water in a pot, and place the glass bowl over it, creating a double broiler. Bring the water down to a simmer, and stir the ingredients until everything has melted together. Remove from the heat, and add the zinc oxide powder and essential oils, mix well. Pour the mixture into a glass jar or other container. I used a pump top for the sunscreen oil and a 4oz. mason jar for sunscreen cream.
