As many of you know, I end each of my posts with “beauty begins within,” because I truly believe that it does. I see so many beautiful women whose beauty is outstanding, but hidden by fear of rejection or ridicule. It hurts my heart that these women can’t see what we see, and that’s why I’ve dedicated my life to helping them see their true beauty. When life gets you down, remember the following:
Beauty begins with a simple choice you make each and everyday. The words you choose to tell yourself have power to make you feel beautiful each day.
“Consequently, faith comes from hearing, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” – Romans 10:17
Let me know in your comments below how this message speaks to you. Have you begun to tell yourself that you’re beautiful?
This past week I had a unique opportunity to take my team, at Jeffrey Paul Salon, out for a team building day. We all visited a local glass shop where each of my staff got the chance to blow glass and make their own glass globe. Not only was this an absolute blast it really made me think about how glass blowing is very similar to making resolutions or a decision to change something in your life.
When we went to blow glass the instructor told us we needed three things. With those things we would be able to make a beautiful work of art. Without them the individual would be left with… BROKEN GLASS! Those three important items for glass blowing were:
The start of a New Year brings a tradition many of us make but may not be good at keeping, New Year’s resolutions. Don’t let these statistics from Living Magazine fool you into not making your yearly resolution.
40-45% Americans set resolutions annually.
After 1 month, only 64% are still participating in their resolution.
After 6 months, only 46% are still participating in their resolution.
After 1 year, only 12% are truly living out their resolution.
These statistics can make you turn the other way when someone asks, “What’s your resolution?” But I don’t want you to let them. I am here to help you make a resolution, and keep it! Let’s do this together; I will be providing coaches throughout the year to help mentor you. Through live workshops and my blog I will bring you resources to help make you better and live your resolution.
So please, share with me in your comments below what your resolution is this year, and I’ll help you stick to it. I look forward to your responses.
All of us know that in the month of November we celebrate the Day of Thanksgiving…but what about the other 364 days of the year???
Do you celebrate Thanksgiving each and every day? You would if you understood the “Gift of Thanksgiving” and its power to overcome difficulties, depression, anxiety, disappointment, failures and so much more that we are faced with each day of our lives.
Giving thanks is easy when everything is good, going our way or when we get what we want. The true power and the life changing aspect of giving thanks is finding the powerful discipline to give thanks even in the midst of life’s challenges. It is not that we are giving thanks for the challenge, but instead giving thanks that God loves us so much that even in the midst of the challenges He is by our side and IS working all things together for the good.
This discipline needs to be practiced with great diligence to see it change storms into calm seas and failures into successes. The choice to discipline our thoughts and our words – to be thankful for not what is seen but rather what is hoped for – activates our faith and gives God the praise and thanks in Him rather than in the things of this world or the circumstances of our life.
So this year as you sit down and give thanks… remember to give thanks for not only the good that you see, but also that which is unseen, and being worked out, by God, for the Good! By doing this, every day, you unleash the true “Gift of Thanksgiving!”
“Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.” (Philippians 4:8, 9 MSG)
What happens to your hair when it gets hard? It looks bad and breaks. The same thing happens to your heart. We have all been hurt by someone and have become bitter, the only way to soften your heart is to moisturize it with love and compassion.
Watch my video above as I give you the exercise to help you soften your heart:
On a piece of paper write down everything you may be angry about.
Then, safely light it on fire and let those words become ashes.
And remember, just as Proverbs 4 says, “guard your heart, it’s the wellspring of good life.” Today, guard your heart by letting go of that which makes it hard.

When planning a trip you do so with a map of where you are going. If you do not have the map for your life how do you know where you are going? No matter where life may take you, it’s important to take the time to reflect on the plan for your life. In this video, I discuss three steps on how to figure out where you are going in your life:
Stop, each day, and take a moment to reflect upon your life’s plan.
Do you ever get into a negative thinking funk? Nothing seems to be going right and you just can’t find anything positive around you?
It is very easy to get into a negative thinking mindset when negative things happen we continue to think upon the negative which sets us up for a vicious cycle of negative outcomes.
Philippians 4:8 gives us the best principle to bring a positive change to your life, “think upon good things.” I have a 3-step approach based off of Philippians 4:8 to help you get out of that slump of negative thinking and get back to seeing the positive in all things. Here is what you need to do:
Write a list of “30 Things to be thankful for”
Each day, for 30 days, read your list
Each day take something beautiful, capture the good feeling and think upon it
Remember Beauty comes from within and so does change. So today start to make a change from within to see the positive in your life!

The most rewarding part of my job is watching someone whose self-image has withered and then is transformed back into a vital, happy, radiant human being. When she looks into the mirror and sees herself as she always used to be – or as she always wished she could be – the joy in the room could light up a Christmas tree. I know that she’ll move back into her life with a confidence that will bring her countless benefits – both in her inner self and the outer self she presents to others. I’ve seen that happen again and again and it’s something I never tire of seeing.
In the video above there’s a story I would like to share with you, that I wrote, that illustrates the good feeling that comes along with watching people actually see themselves for who they truly are based on changes they make in their lives. This story is of an ugly caterpillar. It seems like a simple one, but its themes are familiar to Hair Restoration and Replacement professionals and the women and children who have undergone their own metamorphoses through the realization of royally beautiful hair.
Thank you for joining me in today’s inspirational journey. To read the full story of the Ugly Caterpillar please click here. Please allow this story to strengthen you and then pass it along to help someone else.
Have you ever heard the story of the mountain climber who slips and falls off the edge of the mountain and is hanging on for dear life with all his strength and effort, and when finally he is exhausted and unable to save himself begins to cry for help? Then a Majestic Voice calls out; “I am God and I will save you just let go and Trust Me I will not let you fall.” A moment of silence comes from the man hanging for dear life, then he cries out; “Is there anyone else up there?”
Where in your life do you feel you are hanging on for dear life? Are you trying to fix your life, marriage, health, job, relationship, finances or anything else that you are facing? Do you feel you are trying with all your strength and all your efforts but feel exhausted and unable to fix it? I have some good news for you – You can’t but with God you can!
In Zechariah 4:6-7 God’s Word says: “Not by your strength nor by your power, but by My Spirit,”
Even more to the point, it is said in the scripture of Isaiah that it is impossible to fix your life or anything else without turning it over to God and truly trusting in Him and His power to work all things together for the good in your life. God designed it this way so we would come to the realization that our best efforts are minor compared to His power within us.
Read Isaiah 30:15-26 and do what it says; “stop trying to fix your life and cry out for God’s help.” Then you will see what He has promised and preformed over and over since the beginning of time which is, that He is faithful and He will do what He has promised He would do!” (1 Thessalonians 5:24)
Thank you for joining me in today’s journey. Please allow these words to strengthen you and then pass them along to help someone else. For more inspiration and to continue the journey with me, click here.
Base your actions not on what just happened, but on what you would like to now make happen. You can’t change what already is, but you most certainly have influence over what will be.
Choose your actions and responses based on the outcomes you desire, not on the history you’ve experienced. Sure, it’s great to let the past inform you, but not good at all to let it control you.
Instead of trying to win an argument or prove a point or assign blame, put your energy into creating new value. Instead of being drawn into a useless negative reaction, choose a useful, helpful and positive outcome.
You don’t have to react to rudeness with more rudeness and you don’t have to react to injustice with more injustice. Decide to put an end to the negativity by focusing on a highly desirable outcome.
You may not have been the person in the wrong, yet you can be the person to make it right. So make the most of that extraordinary opportunity.
Look ahead, and choose the very best outcome for everyone involved. Then positively, politely, and enthusiastically put your efforts into making that outcome happen.
Last week, I took my team at Jeffrey Paul Salon out for a Team building day. We took a day off work, rented some bikes and rode on a path in a beautiful area of town. Throughout the ride we took turns sending each team member from the back to the front and cheered them on. Most of my team does not ride and some had not been on a bike for almost 30 years. At the end of the day we told everyone we had gone 13 miles. They could not believe it!
A few days later one of my team members emailed me this, “I would never have dreamed I could do such a thing (ride 13 miles). For so many years I’ve been told ‘I can’t.’ Thank you for finally telling me ‘I can!’”
Not only is this truly inspirational to me, but it also reminds me of the story of how they train elephants. Watch this video and ask yourself, “What’s holding me back?”
What a weekend! It was a whirlwind of excitement, ponytails, rain, sweat, cows (!) and a whole lot of fun! We’d like to send a special thank you to everyone who came out for our annual fundraiser at the Cleveland Zoo to support the Wigs for Kids mission!
The day started out rather dreary with some rain showers, but with your help we had a fabulous day regardless! (It turns out some runners prefer to run in the rain…who knew!) Over 1,000 participants came out to run/walk the 5k to the finish line where we had the Chick-fil-A cows, and an entire league of superheroes waiting! With your help we raised approximately $77,000 dollars to help provide wigs for 20, 2013 recipients!
We’ll have more pictures to post on Facebook and Pinterest, but for now check out this fabulous video created by one of our biggest fans!
We would like to send a very special thank you to each and every one of you that participated or donated, as well as this year’s sponsors:
Do you remember Emma? Children like Emma and Kiken (read his story below) are able to hop, skip, jump and play around the playground just like normal children their age despite suffering from illnesses that leave them with little to no hair on their heads. How? Because of your generous donations of your own hair, your time, or your finances.
Last weekend the community of Cleveland came together for a cut-a-thon at the Cleveland convention center to cut their hair for this year’s Wigs for Kids recipients, but tomorrow you have the opportunity to help even if your hair isn’t 12 inches long! Sign up to Walk/Run at the Wigs for Kids Day at the Zoo event where we will be celebrating these fantastic children by raising money to help more children look and feel themselves. The event and sign up information is below, don’t miss out on a chance to put a smile on a child’s face!
For 8-year-old Kiken, receiving a hairpiece will change his life. Because he suffers from alopecia, the kids at school are bullying him. With the funding for a hairpiece he will fit in among his peers and be a ‘normal’ kid!

Do you remember the game; “Where’s Waldo?” It is a picture game that had a complex pictures and within the complexity of all that was in the picture was hidden the character, Waldo, that you needed to identify to win.
With life moving so fast and our lives wrapped up in so many areas, the tendency is to become self absorbed in the complexities of our picture of life with our own needs, troubles, fears or successes. We become “blind” of the lesson Jesus taught in three different parables about being able to see and identify Jesus right in front of us. By doing so we would bring our lives into the fulfillment of what God intended it and planned it to be without trying harder in our own strength and abilities. But like the game “Where’s Waldo?” the harder you try to see him the more you miss him in the complexity of the crowded picture of our lives!
Today, take this day and look up from your life, lift your eyes to see above all the complexities of it, draw back and just take a look around you to see what you can see. Listen closely to the still quiet voice within you as you ask the Holy Spirit to show you Jesus hidden in the picture of others all around you.
