No matter the number of hairs you may have on your head or your hair’s texture, healthy, normal hair has a regular grow-shed cycle of about 80 to 100 hairs a day, so a certain amount of “fall out” is a natural occurrence.
When everything is going as it should, there are three stages of the grow-shed cycle. The first is the anagen stage, which lasts from two to six years. During this stage, hair is firmly seated in the hair follicle, getting plenty of nourishment, and growing at a rate of one quarter to one half an inch per month. This happens with more frequency in our youth, and lessens as we age.
“More than 85% of scalp hair is in this phase at any time,” says dermatologist Dr. Wilma Bergfeld, head of dermatology research at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. So, most of our hair is constantly in the process of feeding and growing.
The moment is encapsulated in your mind so purely that remembering it now brings back that initial physiological reaction. Your heart skips a beat; your stomach twists. You recall looking closer and closer at your scalp in the mirror, dividing strands between frantically searching fingers to locate the source of the problem, and trying to decipher how it would look next week, next month, and in five to ten years.
Some of us see the hairs we lost. We notice them on our clothes, in our brushes, on our pillows or on our bathroom floors. Others aren’t sure what happened. It’s a mystery that leaves us wondering if we used the right products through the years, if we made a mistake with a certain styling routine or color processing, or if we have some sort of medical problem.
In this sense, we have experienced the feeling of personal panic. But identifying the causes as well as the extent of your hair loss will guide you most accurately in finding the right solutions and appreciate that there is hope for relieving your distress.
Hair thinning and loss can be attributed to many factors and, often, combinations of those factors. Generally speaking, they may include:
Genetic predisposition (a family history of hair loss)
Stress and trauma (constriction of blood supply; poor vitamin assimilation)
Nutrition and diet (high consumption of animal fats)
Health issues (thyroid imbalance)
Medications (chemotherapy)
Environment (pseudo-estrogens and pseudo-androgens)
Chemical damage (incorrect chemical processes applied to hair)

Applying makeup to conceal early hair thinning and loss – 10-20% Thinning
It’s the opening credits for Pretty Woman, and we see Viv putting on her leather boots as she gets ready. But they are not perfect, so she takes out a black magic marker and colors in the worn spots so they won’t be noticeable. It works – we don’t notice them, and people could relate because many of them had been using that technique on their shoes for years before the movie came out.
As light power and liquid covers dark or red spots on skin, dark and light powders and liquids canconceal thinning areas on scalps. If the right products are used, we can look nearly perfect and no one will notice hair thinning and loss issues.

Your hair donation is a very precious thing, it’s precious to you because your hair is a part of who you are and, it’s just as precious to the recipient of your hair, whose life your donation will change. Here is a quick video I pulled from our charity Wigs for Kids, that demonstrates a few quick instructions to ensure your hair donation is usable. Thank you again for your donations and know that your contribution is helping children look themselves and live their lives!
Steps:
1. Secure your hair donation at the end where you cut the pony tail, and then every two inches until you reach the end of the donation.
2.Wrap the secured donation in tissue paper or newspaper.
3. Put the wrapped donation in a zip lock bag.
4. Label your donation with the length of the hair.
Hair loss can be devastating, in fact, one-in-four women will experience some form of hair thinning or hair loss during their lifetime. Whether it’s a result of genetics, health issues, medication, stress or other factors, the impact of hair loss is significant to a sense of self.
Why? Because hair is attached to more than the follicles in the scalp. It is attached to emotions, personality, confidence and the way you feel about yourself and how you interact with the world. It is the “crowning glory” to that individual look you call your own.
If you are experiencing the early stages of age-related hair thinning and loss, there are several options you can consider that will help divert attention away from the issue.
Before you approach restoring your beautiful hair, you need to know the basic elements that actually make it beautiful. For that, you need to look no further than to a typical twelve year-old girl. Her head of healthy hair has five specific elements that combine to give it that unmistakable beauty:
• Shine or Condition
• Texture or Wave
• Shade or Color
• Style or Framing
• Growth
At their best, these five components represent the qualities necessary for hair to be beautiful. Duplicating or simulating them successfully is the goal of Hair Restoration.
