Crash Diets = Accidents for Hair

Jeffrey Paul - Crash DietsDr. Robert M. Bernstein, director of the New Hair Institute in New York City and in Fort Lee, New Jersey, cites crash diets and anemia as two potential underlying factors on a long list of those that may contribute to hair loss and that should be ruled out by medical evaluation before embarking on finding the right solution. Limiting nutrients by crash dieting or dieting too severely can rob hair follicles of what they need to survive. If you are experiencing thinning or loss and have been crash dieting, change to a nutritionally sound program as quickly as you can and follow up with a nutritionist or doctor. And if you are anemic, make sure you are getting enough iron, which has a strong impact on your hair’s good health. You should certainly see your doctor or nutritionist for their recommended dosage of iron for your circumstances.

Hairspray 101 – “Good Vs. Bad”

Not all hairsprays are created equal, in fact not all hair sprays are created for the same purpose! Using the correct spray is so important to a successful finished look, especially for a look that you need to last through the entire day.

In the video above I explain the difference in types of hair spray products and what they are used for. I also suggest three products that will make your life easier and your hair more radiant! If you’re looking to create a structured look, we suggest a holding spray by Jeffrey Paul. For a gorgeous shine we suggest Beyond Shine by Aquage, and finally for a fabulous finish I love Aquage’s finishing spray.

Wake Up Hair, The Right Way!

If you are a coffee drinker in the morning, you know what it’s like, or you’re like, when you don’t get that cup of coffee to help you wake up. Just like you, your hair needs a wake-up call to help get the “bed head” and the tangles out. One of the most important things you can do before stepping into the shower is to precondition hair. By doing this preconditioning step you will help start the day for your hair with a great foundation. In this video I walk you through the process step by step, but it’s really quite simple. Make sure to:

  1. Section Hair
  2. Mix Conditioner and water into a water bottle and sprits onto hair
  3. Brush through your hair

And that’s it! You’ll be amazed at how much of a difference this short process will make! For more beauty tips daily connect with me on:

Dis-Tress Hair Thinning and Loss

Credit: http://www.metaphoricalplatypus.com/articles/health-and-fitness/anxiety/natural-therapies-to-reduce-anxiety/systematic-desensitization-for-anxiety/

The moment is encapsulated in your mind so purely that remembering it now brings back that initial physiological reaction. Your heart skips a beat; your stomach twists. You recall looking closer and closer at your scalp in the mirror, dividing strands between frantically searching fingers to locate the source of the problem, and trying to decipher how it would look next week, next month, and in five to ten years.

Some of us see the hairs we lost. We notice them on our clothes, in our brushes, on our pillows or on our bathroom floors. Others aren’t sure what happened. It’s a mystery that leaves us wondering if we used the right products through the years, if we made a mistake with a certain styling routine or color processing, or if we have some sort of medical problem.

In this sense, we have experienced the feeling of personal panic. But identifying the causes as well as the extent of your hair loss will guide you most accurately in finding the right solutions and appreciate that there is hope for relieving your distress.
Hair thinning and loss can be attributed to many factors and, often, combinations of those factors. Generally speaking, they may include:

  •  Genetic predisposition (a family history of hair loss)
  •  Stress and trauma (constriction of blood supply; poor vitamin assimilation)
  •  Nutrition and diet (high consumption of animal fats)
  •  Health issues (thyroid imbalance)
  •  Medications (chemotherapy)
  •  Environment (pseudo-estrogens and pseudo-androgens)
  •  Chemical damage (incorrect chemical processes applied to hair)

To find more information on causes of hair loss and the solutions please check out my book, Women’s Hair Solutions to Thinning and Loss. My book will empower you with the knowledge you need to take the best possible action to correct your problem and reclaim your confidence.

This Summer…Breathe Easy

Untitled

“Jeffrey, during the summer months, with all the additional environmental irritants around, how do I breathe more clearly?” – Judith M.

Judith, thank you for your question! It’s a rough time for those of us, myself included, who are more sensitive to seasonal irritant.  I’d like to share a wonderful health and wellness tip that can help support a healthy respiratory system, and maintain clear breathing*.

Sometimes Even Superheroes Need A Little Help!

I was so inspired by the creativity and for-thought of this hospital, because from a child’s perspective…cancer isn’t so scary if you’re the Batman.

A large part of the battle for those suffering from cancer and other dreadful diseases is the mental toll of your physical ailment, especially for children. In order to help the children at their hospital, the team at A.C. Camargo Cancer Center created customized comic books and have their medicine delivered to them via ‘super serum!’ (Read the full article here)

It’s amazing how much we can help the children around us with a little bit of creativity and a lot of love. It’s for these children that Wigs for Kids holds an Annual Zoo walk, so that all sorts of other little superheroes can look as strong as they act. There is nothing more heartwarming than the smile on a child’s face when they feel beautiful. If you’d like to participate by creating a team and joining in the activities or donating to our Wigs for Kids 8th annual Zoo Walk, here is some more information.

Hairspray 101 – “Proper Use of Hairspray”

What’s the key to using hairspray like a professional? You probably didn’t even know there was a ‘correct’ way! Well, other than using high quality products, it’s the most important factor in hairspray application is the distance at which you are spraying your hair! Why? Because the manufacture creates the bottle to spray moisture for 12 inches and if you are closer than 12 inches it means you are getting too much accelerant (the ingredient that pushes the spray out of bottle) and residual product on the hair. This in turn can cause dryness and those dreaded white flakes.

In order to get the most desired affects from your hair spray product, you need to hold your arm out straight, at approximately 12 inches from your head and then spray! Work the product into your hair with your hands or a brush and then spray again!

In this video I walk you through the detailed steps on what you may be doing wrong and show the correct way to use hairspray like a pro!

Ask Jeffrey – The secret to silky-smooth hair is silk

“Jeffrey, how in the world do movie stars have such beautiful, smooth hair?” – Monica H.

Monica, thank you for your question! One of the most important answers to that question is that they treat their hair right. What do I mean by that? Well, if you’ve watched any of my other beauty tip videos or read the blogs, then you know that friction is the number one enemy of beautiful hair. Friction causes breakage, frizz and knotting – three things you’ll never see in a hair commercial.

I’ve already addressed collar friction, but the majority of friction actually happens while you are sleeping! In the video above I explain that the friction caused by laying your head on a pillow is something that can be avoided by simply using a silk satin pillowcase – yes the secret to silky hair is a silky pillow!

Here are some quick steps to take to ensure that your hair is protected and beautiful when you wake up in the morning:

1. Spritz spray conditioner gently all around your head

2.  Use a wet brush to gently comb through your hair, making sure that the conditioner is equally distributed throughout the hair.

3. Sleep on a silk satin pillowcase

And that’s it! Of course I have so many more wonderful beauty tips to share, so stay tuned to the blog and connect with us on:
