First, it is important to understand what Trichology is, in order to see how this study can help strengthen your existing hair and scalp and prevent against thin hair and hair loss in the future. Trichology is the study of the health of your hair and scalp. It is through this study that we are able to better determine the causes of hair fallout, hair breakage, and hair thinning as well as conditions with the scalp that can lead to both thin hair and hair loss.
All too often I meet men and women who are focusing on taking better care of their hair in order to have better quality hair or to maintain their hair for as long as possible. The missing link to this is that although taking care of your hair is very important it is of equal, if not of greater importance, to take care of your scalp.
To better understand this crucial concept, imagine your scalp and hair like a forest of trees. If you want to have beautiful and healthy “trees,” you have to take care of the land where they grow and eat. This means giving the proper nourishment and eliminating any pathogens. Our hair acts the same way, by making sure that our scalp has the proper nourishment and that we are eliminating any scalp problems, allowing hair to be healthy – a healthy scalp equals healthier hair!
So you may be asking yourself what you should be looking for to determine if you have a healthy scalp. This is an excellent question. My team and I look at two major components of the scalp – Oil Levels and Hydration Levels:
- Oil Levels – Oil plays an important role in maintaining your healthy hair and skin, but too much oil can bring the opposite results. There is a correlation between the over production of oil and thinning and hair loss problems.
- Hydration Levels – It is important that your scalp and hair have healthy levels of hydration or moisture. If your scalp does not have enough hydration it can lead to dry scalp, dandruff, redness and itching.
I am very excited to announce that through my partnership with Cesare Ragazzi Labs, Jeffrey Paul Salon is the first salon in the United States to have been trained and certified to use the TricoTest® Software and medical appliances. These tools are designed to sense both hydration and oil levels in the skin and hair and establish the cause of hair and skin problems. At the same time the patented software is designed to help prescribe the best treatment products and services in order to create healthier skin and hair.
